Chelsea vs Manchester United Preview

Manchester United go to Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime without a win in their last five games and sitting just one point above the Premier League’s bottom three. Their hosts have problems of their own. Chelsea have lost three of their last five, most recently going out of the Carabao Cup on penalties at Liverpool on Wednesday night. United can at least draw on recent meetings, having won the last two against Chelsea, including at this ground last season. Kick-off is at 12:30pm GMT.

Chelsea’s last five read two wins and three defeats, though one of those defeats came on penalties. On Wednesday they drew 1-1 at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and lost the shootout 6-5. Four days before that, they were beaten 2-0 at home by Tottenham in the league. Before those two came back-to-back league wins, 2-0 away at Everton and 5-1 at home to Bournemouth, while the oldest result is a 3-0 defeat at Brentford in September. That adds up to eight goals scored and seven conceded, and Chelsea failed to score in two of the three defeats. Saturday’s game comes three days after the trip to Anfield.

Manchester United are winless in five, with two draws and three defeats, three goals scored and 11 conceded. The most recent was a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, four days after a 4-1 loss at Como in the Champions League. Earlier in this run they drew 1-1 at Leeds, lost 2-0 away to Atlético Madrid and drew 1-1 at home with Tottenham. They have scored no more than once in any of the five games and kept no clean sheets. United have not played since Sunday, giving them six days to prepare compared with Chelsea’s three.

The last five meetings are evenly balanced, with two wins each and a draw, but United have won the two most recent. They won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in April and 2-1 at home in September 2025. Chelsea’s two wins both came at Stamford Bridge, 1-0 in May 2025 and 4-3 in April 2024, the highest-scoring game in the sample. The other meeting, at Old Trafford in November 2024, finished 1-1. Four of the five were decided by a single goal.

Chelsea sit fifth on 13 points, while Manchester United are 16th on seven, one point above the bottom three. A United win would take them to 10 points, level with Hull City, Everton and Ipswich Town on current standings.
