Internazionale host Cagliari at San Siro on Friday evening in a Serie A fixture that could not be more different in terms of what is at stake for each side. The Nerazzurri sit nine points clear at the top of the table on 75 points, with the title increasingly within their grasp. Cagliari arrive in 15th place on 33 points — six above the relegation zone — and in desperate need of points to secure their top-flight status with six games remaining.

Inter head into this game in encouraging form, albeit with a couple of dropped points in recent weeks. Their most recent outing was a stunning 4-3 win away at Como in the league — a high-scoring, drama-filled result that underlined their attacking quality even in less structured games. Prior to that, a commanding 5-2 home win over AS Roma was as convincing as it gets. Before that, a 1-1 draw away at Fiorentina, and earlier in this run, a 1-1 home draw with Atalanta. The only defeat in the run was a 1-0 loss away at AC Milan in the derby — the sole blemish in an otherwise dominant campaign. Two wins, two draws, and one defeat is the form of a title-winning side managing its resources across a long season.

Cagliari’s form is alarming. Their most recent outing was a 1-0 home win over Cremonese — one of only two sides below them in the table — which provided a vital but slender boost. Prior to that, a 2-1 defeat away at Sassuolo, and before that, a 1-0 home loss to Napoli. Earlier in this run, a 3-1 defeat away at Pisa and a 2-1 home loss to Como. One win from five, with four defeats — the Isolani are firmly in survival territory and cannot afford to be passive on Friday night, despite the scale of the task facing them at San Siro.

The gulf in quality between these sides is significant, but Cagliari will take some encouragement from the fact that Inter have shown they can be opened up — five different sides have scored at least twice against them this season. The challenge is that Inter also score freely at San Siro, and Cagliari’s defensive record of 44 goals conceded in 32 games is one of the worst in the division. If Inter find their rhythm early, this could become a difficult evening for the visitors in a hurry.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings heavily favours Inter, who have won four, with one draw and no victories for Cagliari. Most recently, Cagliari lost 2-0 at home to Inter in September 2025. In the previous encounter, Inter won 3-1 at home against Cagliari in April 2025.

Inter are simply a different class to Cagliari at this stage of the season, and with the title in their sights, they will be motivated to maintain their points tally and goal difference. Fans will expect a comfortable home win is the most likely outcome on Friday evening however teams struggling sometimes produce magical results when the chips are down.

St. Pauli host FC Cologne at the Millerntor-Stadion on Friday evening in a Bundesliga fixture that carries significant weight at the wrong end of the table. The hosts are staring down the relegation playoff spot in 16th with 25 points — three behind 15th-placed Werder Bremen — and need wins urgently if they are to drag themselves out of trouble. Cologne arrive in 13th on 30 points, five above St. Pauli, and while their own position is more comfortable, three points here would put useful distance between themselves and the danger zone with the season entering its final stretch.

St. Pauli’s form makes for grim reading. Their most recent outing was a 5-0 home thrashing by Bayern Munich — a result that, while coming against the runaway league leaders, will have done little for confidence or goal difference. Prior to that, a 1-1 draw away at Union Berlin, a respectable point on the road. Before that, a 2-1 home defeat to SC Freiburg, and earlier in this run, a 2-0 loss away at Borussia Mönchengladbach. A 0-0 home draw with Eintracht Frankfurt rounds out five games without a win. Three defeats and two draws — the Kiezkicker are running out of time and running out of runway, and a home fixture against a side also in the lower half represents one of their clearest chances to take three points from what remains of the season.

FC Cologne’s form is inconsistent but contains more to work with. Their most recent outing was a 3-1 home win over Werder Bremen — a result that provided real momentum going into this trip. Prior to that, a 2-2 draw away at Eintracht Frankfurt, and before that, a 3-3 home draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Earlier in this run, a 1-1 draw away at Hamburg and a 2-1 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund. One win and three draws from five with a single defeat — Cologne are not setting the world alight, but they are grinding out points and showed genuine attacking intent in that win over Werder at the weekend.

The context makes this a high-stakes game for St. Pauli in particular. Sitting just above the relegation zone with nine games to play, every home game has become a must-win scenario. The Millerntor crowd will be vociferous and will push the hosts to impose themselves early, but the underlying numbers — worst goals-against record in the division with 50 conceded, and a goal difference of -25 — paint a picture of a side that has been outclassed too often this campaign. Cologne, with 40 goals scored and a goal difference of -9, are a more balanced unit. A win here would move them provisionally to 33 points and into the upper half of the bottom section, while doing more damage to St. Pauli’s survival hopes.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings strongly favours FC Cologne, who have won four, with one draw and no victories for St. Pauli. Most recently, FC Cologne drew 1-1 at home against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga in December 2025. In the previous encounter, FC Cologne won 4-1 at home against St. Pauli in February 2019.

St. Pauli need this more urgently, but Cologne have the better form, the better squad depth, and a dominant historical record in this fixture. A tightly contested game looks likely on Friday night.

Fiorentina host Crystal Palace at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Thursday night for the second leg of this Conference League quarter-final, facing one of the steepest climbs possible in European knockout football. The Eagles head to Florence carrying a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg, meaning the Viola must score three goals without reply just to force extra time — an enormous ask on any occasion, let alone against a side that has conceded just twice in their last five games.

Fiorentina arrive at this second leg knowing the situation is close to impossible, yet they will have no choice but to go all out from the off. Their most recent outing was that chastening 3-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace in the first leg — a result that has left them facing an uphill struggle on home turf. Prior to that, a 1-0 win away at Hellas Verona in Serie A showed they can find goals on the road, and before that, a 1-1 home draw with Internazionale in the league. Earlier in this run, a 2-1 win away at Raków Czestochowa in the Conference League round of 16, and a 4-1 win away at Cremonese. Three wins, a draw, and a defeat — the form without that first-leg result would be fairly encouraging. But the task on Thursday is simply to score three goals, which Fiorentina must attempt while Palace will be free to counter at will.

Crystal Palace arrive at the Franchi in outstanding form and with all the psychological advantages that come from a three-goal aggregate cushion. Their most recent outing was a 2-1 home win over Newcastle United in the Premier League — a sharp, focused performance that underlined their current quality. Prior to that came the 3-0 first-leg victory that has defined this tie. Before that, a 2-1 win away at AEK Larnaca in the Conference League, and earlier in this run, two successive home draws — 0-0 against Leeds United and 0-0 against AEK Larnaca. Three wins from five is solid, and the Eagles have momentum in Europe right now. On Thursday, they can sit deep, keep their shape, and rely on the pace of their forward line to punish Fiorentina’s inevitable openness.

The tactical picture is stark. Fiorentina must attack from first whistle to last, and Crystal Palace have shown this season that they are extremely dangerous in transition. If Palace score even once in Florence, Fiorentina would need five goals to go through — effectively ending the contest as a meaningful competition. The Artemio Franchi crowd will push the Viola forward, and they have the quality in their squad to make life uncomfortable, but doing so for 90 consecutive minutes against a defence of this quality, while keeping a clean sheet throughout, asks more than the evidence from the first leg suggests Fiorentina can deliver.

The head-to-head record between these clubs is limited to the ties in this competition. Most recently, Crystal Palace won 3-0 at home against Fiorentina in the first leg. That is the only previous meeting between the clubs.

Fiorentina will give everything at the Franchi and the crowd will generate real atmosphere, but Crystal Palace have too much to protect, too much quality to contain, and have already demonstrated they can handle Fiorentina in a competitive match. The Eagles should see this through and advance to the semi-finals but there is always a chance of a gigantic performance in Italy by the home side.

Nottingham Forest host FC Porto at The City Ground on Thursday night for the second leg of this Europa League quarter-final, with the tie perfectly poised at 1-1 on aggregate following last week’s draw in Portugal. There is no aggregate advantage for either side — whoever wins in Nottingham goes through to the semi-finals, while a draw after 90 minutes will send the tie to extra time.

Forest head into this game unbeaten across their last five outings, and that is no small thing when the pressure of a two-legged European knockout tie is factored in. Their most recent outing was a 1-1 home draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League — a result that maintained their solidity without quite delivering a win. Prior to that came the 1-1 draw away at Porto in the first leg, a result Forest will view as fair given the difficulty of the occasion. Before that, an impressive 3-0 win away at Tottenham Hotspur in the league, and earlier in this run, a 2-1 win away at FC Midtjylland that sealed their progress from the previous Europa League round. Two wins and three draws from five — Forest are a hard side to beat, and The City Ground on a European evening is one of the more atmospheric venues in English football.

Porto arrive in solid but unspectacular form, unbeaten themselves across their last five but drawing two of those — including the first leg. Their most recent outing was a confident 3-1 win away at Estoril in the Primeira Liga, which will have provided a timely boost heading into Thursday. Prior to that, the stalemate with Forest in Porto. Before that, a 2-2 home draw with FC Famalicao in the league, and earlier in this run, a 2-1 win away at Braga and a 2-0 home win over VfB Stuttgart in the previous round. Porto are a resilient and organised side with plenty of European experience, and they will not come to The City Ground simply to defend.

The openness of the tie makes this a genuinely unpredictable fixture. Neither side can afford to sit back entirely — a clean draw sends the match to extra time, but both will be wary of conceding the goal that flips the advantage. Forest will look to use the energy of their home crowd to press Porto early and create the kind of disorganisation the Primeira Liga side may not have faced in recent weeks. Porto, for their part, will be disciplined in their defensive structure and dangerous on the break, as their record of scoring in each of their last four away games in Europe demonstrates.

The head-to-head record across the two previous meetings between these clubs slightly favours Forest, who won the earlier meeting — a 2-0 home victory in the Europa League in October 2025 — before drawing the first leg 1-1 in Porto. Most recently, FC Porto drew 1-1 at home against Nottingham Forest in the first leg. In the previous encounter, Nottingham Forest won 2-0 at home against FC Porto in the Europa League in October 2025.

The City Ground has been a fortress for Forest in Europe this season, and the momentum of a partisan home crowd in a level tie is a significant factor. Porto have the quality to progress, but Forest’s resilience and home advantage make them narrow favourites. Expect a tight, competitive game decided by fine margins.

Aston Villa host Bologna at Villa Park on Thursday night for the second leg of this Europa League quarter-final, carrying a commanding 3-1 advantage from the first leg in Italy. The Lions are firmly in control of this tie and need only avoid a two-goal swing to book their place in the semi-finals, while Bologna face an enormous uphill task if they are to turn this around in the West Midlands.

Villa head into this game in solid form and with the confidence that comes from that first-leg performance in Bologna. Their most recent outing was a 1-1 draw away at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League — a result that, while not a victory, keeps them ticking over domestically. Prior to that came the decisive 3-1 win away at Bologna in the first leg, which has given them such a strong platform for Thursday. Before that, a 2-0 home win over West Ham in the league, and earlier in this run, a 2-0 home victory over Lille in the previous round of this competition. The one blemish in the run was a 3-1 loss away at Manchester United. Three wins and a draw from four outings since that defeat represents a fine return, and the aggregate cushion means Villa can approach this evening with a degree of composure that Bologna simply cannot afford.

Bologna’s situation is stark. They need to score at least three goals in Birmingham while keeping a clean sheet, or win by two and hope the match goes to extra time. Their form gives them cause for cautious optimism — their most recent outing was a 2-0 home win over Lecce in Serie A, a confidence-boosting result going into this game. Prior to that came the 3-1 first-leg defeat, and before that, a 2-1 win away at Cremonese. Earlier in this run, a 2-0 home loss to Lazio and a remarkable 4-3 win away at AS Roma in the previous European round. Bologna have shown they can score goals in Europe, but conceding three in the first leg has left them with a mountain to climb.

The dynamic of the tie is simple — Bologna must attack from the first minute and cannot afford to concede. Villa, in turn, will be happy to manage the game, stay organised, and pick off their opponents on the counter. The atmosphere at Villa Park on a European knockout night has been a genuine weapon for the hosts this season, and that will be no different on Thursday. For Bologna, the task of undoing a two-goal deficit across 90 minutes would be difficult enough — doing so against a side this settled and well-organised on home turf borders on the improbable.

The head-to-head record across the three previous meetings between these sides heavily favours Aston Villa, who have won all three without dropping a point. Most recently, Villa won 3-1 away at Bologna in the first leg of this tie. In the previous encounter, Villa won 1-0 at home against Bologna in the Europa League earlier this season.

Villa have been dominant in every meeting with Bologna and have every advantage going into Thursday — home ground, form, and a two-goal aggregate cushion. Expect them to manage this professionally and look to reach the semi-finals.

Bayern Munich host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night for the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final, with the Bavarians carrying a 2-1 aggregate lead into the tie. Real Madrid need to score at least once and avoid defeat, or win by a goal margin, to force extra time, while a two-goal swing is required to go through in 90 minutes. Bayern, meanwhile, need only to replicate their first-leg performance to reach the semi-finals.

Bayern arrive in the kind of form that will send a shiver through every side left in the competition. Their most recent outing was a stunning 5-0 win away at St. Pauli in the Bundesliga — a statement of intent ahead of this tie. Prior to that, the 2-1 victory away at Real Madrid in the first leg, which set the platform everything now rests on. Before that, a 3-2 win away at SC Freiburg in the league, and earlier in this run, a 4-0 home win over Union Berlin and a 4-1 home victory over Atalanta in the previous round of this competition. Five wins from five across all competitions, with 18 goals scored — this is a Bayern side operating at the peak of their powers and doing so consistently.

Real Madrid’s recent form has been considerably more turbulent. Their most recent outing was a 1-1 home draw with Girona in La Liga — a result that will have done little to inspire confidence ahead of a must-win European night. Prior to that came the 2-1 first-leg defeat in Munich, and before that, a 2-1 loss away at Mallorca in the league. Earlier in this run, a 3-2 home win over Atlético Madrid and an impressive 2-1 win away at Manchester City in the previous round. Two wins from five, with back-to-back defeats and one draw going into this second leg — it is not the form profile of a side that looks primed for a comeback. However, this is Real Madrid, and European knockout football is where they have historically written their most extraordinary chapters.

The tie demands that Real Madrid be bold from the first whistle. A Bayern goal at any point in the evening would effectively require Real to score three, making caution entirely counterproductive for the visitors. Bayern, by contrast, can manage the game — they have the cushion to absorb pressure and hit on the counter, a scenario that suits their explosive attacking personnel perfectly. The Allianz Arena will be a hostile environment, and the crowd will be firmly behind Bayern from the off.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings favours Bayern, who have won two, with two draws and one win for Real Madrid. Most recently, Bayern won 2-1 away at Real Madrid in the first leg of this tie. In the previous encounter, Real Madrid won 2-1 at home against Bayern in the Champions League semi-final second leg in May 2024.

Bayern have momentum, home advantage, the aggregate cushion, and arguably the best form of any side remaining in this competition. Real Madrid have the pedigree and the will, but they are short on form and short on goals at the critical moment. Fans will Expect Bayern to control this and advance to the semi-finals however Real Madrid are masters of European football.

Arsenal host Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night for the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final, carrying a slender but precious 1-0 advantage from the first leg. The Gunners need only avoid defeat to improve their chances of progressing to the semi-finals, while Sporting must win in north London for the first time in their history at this ground to keep their European campaign alive.

Arsenal arrive at this tie in mixed domestic form, though the away victory in Lisbon last week was exactly what they needed. Their most recent outing was a 1-2 home defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League — a frustrating result that will have sharpened focus heading into Wednesday. Prior to that, the 1-0 win away at Sporting in the first leg provided the platform they now look to protect. Before that, a 2-1 defeat at Southampton in the FA Cup, and earlier in this run, a 2-0 home loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. The bright spot beyond the Lisbon result was a 2-0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen in the previous round. Domestic cup exits and a league wobble have been the backdrop, but European football remains a different challenge altogether for this side, and they head into Wednesday as clear favourites.

Sporting have been in fine form domestically and look a dangerous side. Their most recent outing was a 1-0 win away at Estrela in the Primeira Liga, keeping their title push ticking over. Prior to that came the 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal in the first leg — the result they now need to overturn. Before that, a 4-2 home win over Santa Clara, and earlier in this run, an impressive 4-1 win away at Alverca and a 5-0 home demolition of Bodo/Glimt in the previous round. Four wins from five in all competitions is strong form, and Sporting will arrive with genuine belief that they can produce a result in London. That said, scoring at the Emirates while keeping a clean sheet represents a significant ask.

The dynamic of the tie shapes everything here. Arsenal can settle for a 0-0 or any score draw and go through. A 1-0 Sporting win takes it to extra time. Two without reply and the Lions advance. That shifts enormous pressure onto the visitors to score, while Arsenal have license to be defensively sound and pick their moments. The Emirates crowd will be expectant and tense in equal measure — aware that a single mistake could flip the tie. Sporting, to their credit, are not here to sit back. They will come to win.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings favours Arsenal, who have won two, with three draws and no wins for Sporting. Most recently, Arsenal won 1-0 away at Sporting in the first leg of this tie. In the previous encounter, Arsenal won 5-1 away at Sporting in the Champions League in November 2024.

Arsenal have the quality, the home advantage, and the aggregate cushion. Sporting are capable of scoring here, but conceding first at the Emirates would effectively end the tie. Expect Arsenal to be organised, hard to break down, and clinical if the opportunity presents itself. The Gunners fans will expect them do enough to reach the last four.

Liverpool face an enormous task on Tuesday night as they welcome Paris Saint-Germain to Anfield for the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final. PSG arrive carrying a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, meaning the Reds must score at least twice without reply — or three while conceding to force extra time. The scale of what is required makes this one of the most demanding European nights Anfield has hosted in years.

Liverpool’s recent form has been patchy, though they did produce a timely response at the weekend. Their most recent outing was a 2-0 home win over Fulham in the Premier League, a clean sheet that will have done some good for confidence ahead of this tie. Prior to that came the 2-0 defeat in Paris in the first leg — the result that now defines everything about Tuesday’s game. Before that, a heavy 4-0 loss at Manchester City in the FA Cup, and earlier in this run, a 2-1 defeat away at Brighton in the league. The bright spot was a 4-0 home win over Galatasaray in the previous round of this competition. It is a mixed picture overall, but the Anfield crowd has a habit of lifting this side when the stakes are highest.

PSG, by contrast, arrive in imperious form. Their most recent outing was the first leg here — that 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes. Prior to that, a 3-1 home win over Toulouse in Ligue 1. Before that, a 4-0 win away at Nice, and earlier in this run, a 3-0 victory away at Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, bookending a 5-2 home win over Chelsea in the first leg. Five wins from five across all competitions is the form of a side that is peaking at exactly the right time. They have conceded just once in their last four games and look formidable in every area of the pitch.

The tie is straightforward in terms of what is required, but executing it against this opposition is anything but. Liverpool need to come forward and score twice before PSG find the net, or go through the gears even further if the visitors do strike. PSG, meanwhile, have every incentive to be patient and wait — a single goal essentially kills the tie as a contest. The Anfield atmosphere will be electric and will generate pressure from the first whistle, but PSG have the defensive solidity and the attacking threat to hurt Liverpool on the counter if the hosts are not disciplined in their approach.

The head-to-head record favours PSG, who have won three of the last five meetings, with no draws and two wins for Liverpool. Most recently, PSG won 2-0 at home in the first leg of this tie. In the previous encounter, PSG won 1-0 away at Anfield in March 2025.

Liverpool will give everything in front of their own supporters, and Anfield on a European night remains one of the most pressurised environments in the game. But PSG are in outstanding form, carry a two-goal cushion, and have already demonstrated they can handle the occasion. Overturning this deficit looks beyond the Reds — expect a competitive night, but PSG will be confident they can advance based on their lead.

Atlético Madrid welcome Barcelona to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Tuesday evening for the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final, with the hosts holding a commanding 2-0 advantage from the first leg. The Colchoneros will be looking to protect that aggregate lead and book their place in the last four, while Barcelona must overturn the deficit to keep their European campaign alive.

Atlético arrive at this fixture in unconvincing domestic form. Their most recent outing ended in a 2-1 defeat at Sevilla in La Liga, a result that compounded a difficult run. Prior to that, they produced arguably their best display in weeks with a 2-0 win at Barcelona in the first leg of this very tie — the result that shapes everything about Tuesday’s game. Before that, a 1-2 home defeat to Barcelona in La Liga, and earlier in this run, a 3-2 reverse at Real Madrid and a 3-2 loss away at Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League round of 16. Four defeats from five across all competitions is a sobering backdrop, but that first-leg win is worth its weight in gold regardless of what has followed.

Barcelona’s form tells a very different story in terms of results, even if Tuesday’s task is a daunting one. Their most recent outing was a commanding 4-1 home win over Espanyol in La Liga. Prior to that came the 0-2 first-leg defeat here — the result they now need to overturn. Before that, they won 2-1 away at Atlético in a La Liga meeting, and earlier in this run, a 1-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano and a dominant 7-2 Champions League victory at home against Newcastle United. Four wins from five is fine form, but they face the stiffest possible test in needing two goals without reply, or three while conceding only one to go through.

The context of the tie defines everything here. Atlético can afford to concede a goal and remain in the driving seat. A 2-0 Barcelona win takes it to extra time. Three without reply and the Blaugrana go through on the night. That creates an inherently cautious dynamic — the hosts have every incentive to stay compact and wait, while Barcelona must come forward and take risks. The noise and hostility of a European night at the Metropolitano will make that task even harder.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings favours Barcelona, who have won three to Atlético’s two, with no draws. Most recently, Atlético won 2-0 away at Barcelona in the first leg of this tie. In the previous encounter, Barcelona won 2-1 away at the Metropolitano in a La Liga fixture.

With so much riding on the result and the aggregate cushion firmly in their favour, Atlético look well placed to see this through. Barcelona have the quality to cause problems on the night, but overturning a two-goal deficit against a side that defends as deep and as resolutely as this one — on their own ground, with European knockout pressure amplified — is a significant ask. Expect a tight, attritional contest with the Colchoneros doing enough to reach the semi-finals.

Monday night Serie A at the Stadio Artemio Franchi sees Fiorentina host Lazio in a fixture with very different implications for both sides. The Viola sit 15th in the table with 32 points from 31 games, five points clear of the relegation zone, and very much in need of points. Lazio are ninth with 44 points — 12 ahead of their opponents tonight — and still with a mathematical chance of reaching the European places if results go their way. A win for Fiorentina would take them to 35 points, level on points with Parma in 13th on goal difference, which would provide some much-needed breathing room. A Lazio win moves them to 47, potentially within striking distance of eighth-placed Bologna depending on other results.

Fiorentina arrive here having lost their most recent outing — a 3-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace in the Conference League on April 9. Prior to that, they were in decent domestic form, winning 1-0 away at Hellas Verona. Earlier in this sequence, they drew 1-1 at home to Internazionale, won 2-1 away at Raków Czestochowa in Europe, and claimed a 4-1 away win at Cremonese in Serie A. The European loss will sting, but the league form gives the Viola enough reason for confidence at home.

Lazio head into this one with three wins from their last four in all competitions. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw at home to Parma. Prior to that, they won 2-0 away at Bologna in the league, won 1-0 at home to AC Milan, and won 2-1 at home to Sassuolo — a strong run of form that makes them a dangerous visiting side. Earlier in this sequence they drew 2-2 at home to Atalanta in the Coppa Italia.

The head-to-head record across the last five meetings edges towards Fiorentina, who have won three of the five meetings with one draw and one Lazio victory. Most recently, the sides drew 2-2 at the Stadio Olimpico in January 2026, while Fiorentina won 2-1 away at Lazio in January 2025.
