Coventry City vs Newcastle United

Competition – English Premier League

Stadium: Coventry Building Society Arena

Date: 12th October 2026

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Coventry City have scored once in the Premier League this season, and that goal was enough to win their most recent league game, 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest. Monday night’s visit of Newcastle United to the Coventry Building Society Arena offers a chance to build on that result, but history is not on the hosts’ side: Newcastle have won all five meetings in the sample, scoring 15 goals in the process. Coventry sit 18th on three points, while Newcastle are ninth on eight, having beaten Hull 2-1 in their last league outing. The hosts’ home record is the main concern, with three defeats from three in their last five and nine goals conceded in those games. A win would lift them out of the bottom three as things stand, but they will need to find a way past a Newcastle side who have scored in every one of their last five matches. Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT, and this is the first meeting between the clubs in more than 16 years.

Coventry have one win and four defeats from their last five, but the most recent result was the win, a 1-0 victory away at Nottingham Forest on 19 September. Three days earlier they lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup, and before that came the heaviest defeat of the run, 5-0 at home to Brighton. Further back, Coventry lost 1-0 away at Manchester City and 1-0 at home to Hull. That leaves them with two goals scored and ten conceded across the five. All three of their home games in the sample ended in defeat at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with nine goals conceded, and the Villa defeat was the only one of those in which they scored. Their two away games both finished 1-0, one each way, and Coventry failed to score in three of the five.

Newcastle have three wins, a draw and a defeat from their last five, and they have found the net in every one of them. The latest was a 2-1 home win over Hull on 19 September, and five days earlier they lost 4-1 away to Leeds. A 1-0 win away at Millwall in the EFL Cup sits behind those two, and the oldest results are a 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth and a 2-0 win away at Tottenham. Across the five, Newcastle scored eight and conceded seven, with more than half of those goals against coming at Leeds. Away from home they won two of three, with the Leeds defeat the exception. Newcastle kept two clean sheets in the run, both away from home at Millwall and Tottenham, and they have conceded at least once in each of their three most recent league games.

Newcastle have won all five meetings in the sample, with an aggregate of 15-5, and Coventry have not managed a draw. The most recent was a 4-1 Newcastle win at home in the Championship in February 2010, and two months before that Newcastle won 2-0 away at Coventry. They also won the 2008 EFL Cup tie at Coventry 3-2 after extra time, so both meetings at Coventry in the sample went Newcastle’s way. Coventry scored only once in each of the three meetings at Newcastle, and the sides have not met since 2010. Newcastle scored at least twice in every meeting, and four of the five were decided by two goals or more.

Newcastle are ninth on eight points, while Coventry sit 18th on three, level on points with AFC Bournemouth but behind them on goal difference. A Coventry win would take them to six points and up to 12th as things stand, level with Ipswich Town.
