Canada vs Qatar

Competition –  2026 World Cup

Stadium: BC Place

Date: 18th June 2026

Kick-off time – 23:00 GMT

Thursday’s late kick-off at BC Place sees Canada face Qatar in a Group B fixture that both sides desperately need to win. With all four teams level on one point apiece after the opening round, this match represents a golden opportunity for either nation to pull clear of the pack and take control of their own destiny.

Canada opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12th June. Prior to that, they drew 1-1 at home to Ireland in a pre-tournament friendly. Before that, a 2-0 home win over Uzbekistan. Earlier in this run they drew 0-0 at home to Tunisia, and in their oldest result here they drew 2-2 at home to Iceland. Canada have been difficult to beat but have struggled to turn dominance into victories, and converting chances will be key against a disciplined Qatar side.

Qatar opened with a 1-1 draw at home to Switzerland on 13th June. Prior to that, they drew 0-0 at home to El Salvador in a friendly. Before that, they lost 0-1 away to Ireland. Earlier in this run they suffered a 0-3 defeat at home to Tunisia, and their oldest result in this sequence was a 1-1 draw away to Syria. Qatar have shown they can organise defensively but their attacking output has been limited, and they will need a significant improvement to threaten a Canada side playing in front of a home crowd.

The only previous meeting between these sides saw Canada win 2-0 at home to Qatar in September 2022, the sole head-to-head on record.

The Group B standings could not be tighter — all four sides on one point, all level on goal difference of zero. A Canada win here moves them to four points and into a strong position heading into the final group game. A Qatar win would do likewise and make the group’s final round genuinely unpredictable. With Switzerland facing Bosnia-Herzegovina in the other group match, the pressure is on both sides to take all three points.

In the UK, this match is live on ITV 1 and available to stream via ITVX. In the United States, viewers can watch on Fox Sports 1 or fuboTV. Canadian viewers can follow every moment on TSN1, TSN+ or CTV, while Qatar supporters can tune in on beIN Sports.
