Brentford vs Chelsea

Competition – English Premier League

Stadium: Gtech Community Stadium

Date: 18th September 2026

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Five wins and four draws between them from their last nine says plenty about how competitive this one should be — Brentford and Chelsea meet at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday night with both sides sitting just a point apart in mid-table, and both carrying momentum of very different shapes into it.

Brentford haven’t lost since the opening weekend of August, arriving on the back of five straight results without defeat — two wins and three draws. Most recently, they beat Reading 1:2 away in the EFL Cup. Before that, they were held 2-2 at home by Bournemouth, and a run of drawn Premier League games before that — 1-1 with Sunderland at the Gtech, 1-1 away at Leeds — has kept the Bees unbeaten without them really finding top gear domestically. Further back, the one genuine goalfest in this sample came away at Birmingham, thrashed 6-1 in the EFL Cup.

Chelsea have won three of their last five, but Friday follows the least convincing result of that run — a 2-2 draw at home to Hull that snapped a much sharper stretch of form. Just three days earlier they’d put six past Leeds in the EFL Cup, and before that they lost 2-1 at Arsenal despite matching the Gunners for long spells. Further back, wins over Brighton (4-3 at home, in a nine-goal thriller) and Luton (2-0, EFL Cup) opened this run, meaning goals have flowed at both ends for Chelsea in almost every match they’ve played this month.

Chelsea have the clear historical edge in this fixture, winning two of the last five meetings to Brentford’s none, with the other three all drawn. Most recently, Chelsea won 2-0 at home back in January, and the meeting before that finished 2-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium — in fact, three of the last five head-to-heads between these two have ended level, with Brentford still waiting for a win over Chelsea in this particular sample.

Chelsea sit 6th on 7 points, just one place and one point above Brentford in 7th. A win here would lift Chelsea to 10 points, above both Leeds and Hull depending on results elsewhere

In Great Britain, the match is live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, also available via NOW. In the United States, viewers can follow the action on USA Network. The game is also shown in Germany via Sky Sport Premier League and in France on Canal+ Foot and myCANAL.
